SASKATOON — In 2010, through the generosity and commitment of donors, investments, draws and other activities, St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation (SPHF) was able to contribute $2,561,279 to St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon.

The funds were used toward the purchase of medical equipment, capital improvements, patient control care items, staff professional development and the Healing Arts program. The details of the allocations were presented at the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation annual general meeting April 29 at St. Paul’s Hospital.

“This contribution was made possible due to the generosity of our donors,” said St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation CEO Bruce Acton. “Their sincere commitment and leadership mirrors the spirit and giving nature of our founders, the Grey Nuns. We also acknowledge that these philanthropic gifts are often in response to the high level of compassionate care received at St. Paul’s.”

The foundation supported St. Paul’s Hospital in 2010 with allocations of department essentials, ranging from chairs and blanket warmers to equipment for many areas, including vascular and thoracic, urology, and the emergency department, along with other support programs for patients and families.

St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation also contributed to the educational advancement of hospital employees. A total of $87,693 was used for professional and organization development awards in 2010, offering St. Paul’s employees up-to-date learning opportunities. The foundation also allocated $102,107 to the SPHF Draws, a program where St. Paul’s Hospital employees apply for funds to help acquire items that benefit patients and their families.

The foundation appointed Mercedes Montgomery as chair, Barbara Berscheid as past chair, Colleen Cameron as vice-chair, Glenn Sinden as secretary and Barry Frank as treasurer.

John Agioritis, Denise Frey and Melanie Hilkewich were newly appointed to the board for a two-year term. They join Dr. Judy Klassen, Linda Arnot, Barbara Berscheid, Colleen Cameron, Barry Frank, Mercedes Montgomery, Glenn Sinden, Carol Young and Lisa Edwards Yuel.
Deb Hicks, Ron Holmes, Karen Pitka, Kelly Lutz, and Robert Leier retired from the foundation board.

St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation has raised more than $64 million since the foundation was formed in 1983.
