Roche given Honorary Doctor of Theology

WATERLOO, Ont. — Dr. David Perrin, president and vice-chancellor of St. Jerome’s University, has announced that Hon. Douglas Roche will be presented with a doctor of theology degree, honouris causa, at the university’s convocation mass on June 14.

Roche, former senator, member of Parliament, Ambassador for Disarmament and professor, has a tremendous record as an author and diplomat with specialization in peace and human security issues. He has been widely recognized in Canada and abroad for his work for peace and non-violence.

The honorary theology doctorate is awarded by St. Jerome’s University to an individual who has made extraordinary contributions to Catholic culture and values, to academia, and to society. Roche’s efforts to promote human welfare, human rights and parliamentary democracy in Canada and abroad, as well as his Catholic service on disarmament and security matters, acutely reflect the spirit of this degree.

St. Jerome’s University, which was established by the Congregation of the Resurrection in 1865 and became federated with the University of Waterloo in 1960, registers full- and part-time students in the Faculties of Arts and Mathematics.
