Prince Albert clergy appointments announced

PRINCE ALBERT — Rev. Maurice Fiolleau of Prince Albert is the diocese’s new vicar-general, replacing Rev. Clifford Tremblay who died April 29.

Fiolleau will continue as rector of Sacred Heart Cathedral but will be replaced as director of liturgy by Rev. Alberto Dela Pena of Melfort.

Rev. Greg Elder, the new vice-chancellor, will continue as pastor at St. Vital in Battleford.

The following clergy appointments were also announced in a June 4 letter by Bishop Albert Thévenot and will become effective Aug. 2:

Rev. DJ (Dzung) Vu, newly ordained, will be administrator in the communities of Albertville, Christopher Lake, Candle Lake and Waskesiu/Elkridge and will be part-time hospital chaplain in Prince Albert.
Rev. Tuyen Vu will become pastor for the communities of Tisdale, Bjorkdale and Porcupine Plain.

Rev. Jim Kaptein of Nipawin will become pastor at Zenon Park, Carrot River, and Arborfield.

Rev. George Canto, currently at St. Mark Parish, will be pastor at Nipawin and Choiceland.

Rev. Tuan Doan will be pastor of St. Mark Parish in Prince Albert. He will also be part-time hospital chaplain and celebrate the eucharist at Mont. St. Joseph Home in Prince Albert twice weekly.

Rev. Nick Ferreras, chaplain at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary, will also provide a weekend service to the Herb Bassett Home in Prince Albert.

Rev. Travis Myrheim, pastor at St. Michael Parish and part-time chaplain at St. Mary High School in Prince Albert, will also provide a weekend service to the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in Prince Albert.

Rev. Zidi Karcz, who is retired, will provide weekend service to the Columbian Centre in Prince Albert.

The bishop expressed gratitude to the diocessan chancellor, Rev. Ghislain Gaudet, “for his continued support and dedication to the diocese and for maintaining the office of the vicar-general until a more permanent arrangement could be made.”
