OBLATE DIES — Rev. Egbert Stang, OMI, died at his home at Mazenod Residence in Saskatoon June 28. Born in 1927 at Macklin, Sask., Stang entered the novitiate of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate at St. Laurent, Man. in 1947 and was ordained in 1953. He began teaching at St. Thomas College in North Battleford in 1954 and served as principal from 1972 - 1980. From 1985 until his retirement, Stang served as parish priest in his home parish at Macklin, then with the mission of St. Donatus, St. Joseph's Parish in Winnipeg, and finally at St. John Vianney Parish in La Ronge, Sask. Stang published six books, each a reflection of his own life and spirituality. Always upbeat, even in the face of his own physical limitations, he was known for his daily jokes.
