A Winter’s Reflection

I sit by a roaring fire,
tucked in my furry throw
reading the delicious words
of a beloved book.

Outside my window I listen to
the bitter sounds of a howling
winter wind.

From the corner of my glasses
I catch a reflection,
a quick moment of wings.

I turn, and around the empty feeder
I see an array of wild birds —
jays, clarks, nutcrackers,
chickadees and juncos.

So I leave my place of comfort,
open the door to the bitter elements,
and scatter seeds of love
For my feathered friends.
